How will changes impact schools like Central in Swift Current?

Curious parents and community members can find out more information on the future of Swift Current's core schools Monday night.

The Chinook School Division is holding a meeting at 7pm in the Irwin School Gymnasium where parents, staff and community members are invited to learn more about the transition plan for all elementary and middle years schools.

The changes are as a result of the coming opening for École Centennial School and closure of Ashley Park School. Existing elementary and middle schools will also be changing to a pre-K or K to 8 format.

"We're going to be going over the transition plan," said Chinook School Division Communications Coordinator Joanne Booth. "A little more detailed than what we've given parents so far."

She expects there will be a lot of valuable information for those who have an interest in this process.

"We're going to share information on the transition for students, staff facilities and transportation," Booth said. "So talking about busing."

"There's going to be a little bit of an attendance revision which we've actually posted the new map. The only changes that has been made is for the north side schools with Centennial, Central and Irwin areas."

It's useful for parents to learn as much as possible before being faced with a choice about their child's future.

"We will be sending out letters following that meeting to many families in the city asking them for their school commitment for 2014-15," Booth noted. "So it's really good to have a little bit of information before they say they're going to continue to attend the school they're going to or perhaps there is a bit of a change."

The meeting is again set for Monday night at 7pm in the Irwin School Gymnasium. For background information you can check out the Chinook School Division's website.
