A multi-award-winning country music star will shake up the Living Sky Casino’s stage as he stops in town on his current tour.

Estevan’s Chris Henderson said he’s looking forward to returning to the city for a show with the Swift Current Arts Council on April 22.

“It's been a while since I've played in Swift Current,” he said. “I'm looking forward to seeing some people that I know in the area; one of my childhood friends lives in town, so looking forward to catching up with him for a little bit. But you know, otherwise it's still looking forward to bringing you over and seeing a community that I haven't seen in a while. It's been special, as we're kind of coming out of the pandemic, to be able to reconnect with audiences like this has been a treat."

The successful artist said he’s always been a musician—playing trumpet as a kid and then joining bands in high school. However, it wasn’t until his early 20s that things started to kick off for him.

After finishing his degree to be a high school teacher, Henderson entered a talent competition in Regina, taking home the first-place prize of recording a single.

Henderson described the release of The Difference You Make as snowballing his career as a country artist.

"It kind of went from a hobby that I did as a kid into my early 20s and turned into something a lot more."

While his first album, including his first single, features music written by other talents, he said that almost all of his work since has been original or co-created.

Drawing inspiration from love and loss, he ties these themes into his modern sound and traditional foundation.

“If I had to pick a favorite song—it's hard to choose, but I kind of have a default answer because my father is the guest [vocalist] on a song called Taking Sides on my second record,” Henderson said. “If I had to pick one, I'd probably say that, just because it's cool to hear his voice.”

The 39-year-old has released four albums, earning him more than 40 nominations for the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards.

Don't Miss Your Kiss Goodbye claimed Song of the Year in 2014, and Henderson himself was named Male Artist of the Year in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The April 22 show kicks off at 7:30 p.m., and tickets can be snagged on the Swift Current Arts Council’s website.
