"A Stronger Saskatchewan.  A Better Life."

That's the theme for this session of the Legislature, which officially opened this hour with the Speech from the Throne.

Among the highlights from the Speech are several planned new government initiatives, which include increasing income support for seniors, alongside women and men with disabilities, stronger measures to combat gang activities in the province, as well as continuing to explore clean coal and nuclear energy.

The government will also be looking to establish a new agency, known as Innovation Saskatchewan, to coordinate and support research in the province, and potentially reduce the education portion of property taxes.

Lt Governor Gordon Barnhart gave the Speech in the Legislature.
