A local independent financial advisor has organized a farm succession planning event in Hodgeville for next week.

Janelle Lansdall will be teaming up with keynote speaker Chris Thompson next Thursday at the village's hall to put on the evening.

Lansdall said she's thrilled for the get-together in her rural area.

"I think this is going to be a really interesting take on the numbers side, financial side, and also the farm legacy side and the emotions that come along with farm transition planning," she said.

Thompson grew up on a farm near Kelliher, Saskatchewan, and has firsthand experience with transitioning farms within a family. He has also put in 35 years in the financial industry and can offer a unique perspective.

"What he'll be going over is capital gains tax exemptions, rollover rules, so some things the Canadian government has outlined to help farmers already," she said. "Then he will be going into the psychology of how we make decisions as people. It's quite interesting because our brains are wired to do the things they do, and we make certain decisions based on that."

Registration for the supper portion (starts at 5:30 p.m.) of the event closes tomorrow and can be found here. And Thompson's session will begin at 6 p.m.
