Ferries along the South Saskatchewan River are beginning to open up for the season.

While those along Highway 32 like Lancer and Lemsford, and even Estuary Ferry by McLean Island, are open, the main motor vehicle mover at Riverhurst is still closed for the year.

The Riverhurst Ferry is expected to open up for the season once repairs have finished, sometime toward the end of June.

Dan Palmer, spokesperson with the Sask. Ministry of Highways, advises people to make use of the Highway Hotline to see when these river crossings are ready to receive travellers.

"The Highway Hotline will have the latest status updates," said Palmer. "Whether they're open for normal operations, closed through for the season, or if they have any weight restrictions that may be in place."

Last year, the Riverhurst Ferry had its services suspended, as it was determined that it was in need of repairs. Those repairs are wrapping up this year, with the hope being that the ferry will once again be able to provide a safe and reliable service to Sask. motorists.
