The RM of Swift Current is hoping to combat a recent spur of fires in its region.

Yesterday a fire ban was issued in the wake of the RM of Swift Current Fire Department responding to five fire calls last week.

Dry conditions have been linked to the cause of many recent fires in the area.

"With the wind, heat, and humidity, it's a dangerous combination for firefighting today and going forward," Louis Cherpin, the fire chief for the RM of Swift Current Fire Department said.

Cherpin pointed to Sunday's 5:30 a.m. grass fire as just how bad the conditions are, as the dew normally would have limited the blaze.

Fire crews have been battling what Cherpin called 'crossover' conditions of late.

"When the temperature, humidity, and winds are all at 30 [or higher]," he explained. "There's no moisture left in anything, that's why everything burns."

Swift Current's daytime high for the middle of August is 26 C, however, the maximum temperature average this month is 29.3 C.
