In an update from the Swift Current Fire Department, all is quiet on the water's edge.

The ongoing flood is expected to continue for another week, with today seeing stable levels not dissimilar to last week.

For now, folks are encouraged by Swift Current Fire Department Fire Chief Ryan Hunter to stay clear of Swift Current Creek until it returns to normal levels.

"The fast-moving water and the currents that it creates can overwhelm adults and certainly children immediately once they enter," said Hunter. "The chance of being pulled under is increased exponentially. Again, avoid the creek and keep children and pets far from the creek body."

At this time, the Duncairn Dam is not planning to increase its water discharge.

This is the first major flood since 2011 and has been one of if not the least damaging in recent history. No homes have been reported as lost, with none being evacuated at this time.

For now, the work being done by City crews and the fire department is working to hold back water from populated residences. The sandbags they have placed along low-lying areas have been very effective in holding back the spilling current of the Creek.

Swift Current Online will continue to provide updates as they emerge.
