Maple Creek RCMP received a report of a historic sexual assault on April 25. Upon investigation, it was determined that an adult male sexually assaulted a male youth in the early 2000s, at a sport-related trip. 

The following day, on April 26, 64-year-old Dexter Bacsu was arrested and charged. 

Bacsu is facing one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference. 

He made his first appearance in Swift Current Provincial Court on April 26. 

Maple Creek RCMP believe that there may be more victims and the investigation is still underway. 

Dexter Bacsu was a long-time teacher in Maple Creek schools. He continued to work as a substitute teacher until recently. 

Chinook School Division has advised he is no longer an employee.  

Bacsu volunteers in local youth sports and music programming, including as a coach and trip chaperone. 

Sexual assault is a serious crime and Maple Creek RCMP investigates each complaint thoroughly with professionalism and care. A complaint for sexual offences can be made at any time, no matter how long ago the incident took place.
