Provincial funding for the Swift Current Airport is being seen as a huge boost for plans to bring scheduled air service to the city.

Highways and Infrastructure Minister, Wayne Elhard says a $40,000 investment will be made to the City's airport through the province's Community Airports Program.  The money will go to improve the airport's taxiway and runway lighting system.

The funding comes as Community Futures Southwest continues their push to entice a carrier to provide scheduled air service to Swift Current.  General Manager John Parker, says the upgrades will make sure the airport meets Federal transportation standards, which is one of the major aspects that the airline industry looks at when choosing to serve a city on a regular basis.

Parker adds that they have moved to phase two of their project, which is to collect pledges from businesses and individuals to encourage a carrier to serve the city.

The Provincial government also annouced $10,000 for sealing the runway at Maple Creek's airport.
