The provincial government made a major announcement today regarding the highway 1 and 4 interchange project in Swift Current.

The province is committing $6.5 million in improvements to the intersection, starting with the widening of highway 4 from Swift Current Creek to just north of Saskatchewan Drive.

Tenders for the the first phase of the project will go out in the spring, with construction to begin afterwards.

Other improvements planned for the project include moving the on- and off-ramps of the interchange further apart.
