The City of Swift Current Fire Department has released its official statement on yesterday's house fire.

Crews responded to the fire call at 9 a.m. yesterday, with the house already being engulfed by the blaze. While their response time was fast, 49 Sixth Avenue Northeast was spewing smoke out of the windows even before they got the call.

One Swift Current resident saw the smoke around the same time and saw the crews responding firsthand.

"I seen a bunch of smoke, so I got in my vehicle and went around the block. Then, all of a sudden, I heard sirens, and somebody was trying to bang on the door to a house that was engulfed in flames."

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, there is a confirmed fatality. It is unknown if this individual died due to the fire or if they were already deceased beforehand.

No emergency service members were injured during their response, and the fire was subdued before spreading to adjacent properties.
