If you plan on traveling during the holiday season, you will want to fill up your car or truck ahead of time.

Gas prices are expected to increase in the latter half of this week and it's not just because of the Christmas break.

Senior Petroleum Analyst with Gas Buddy, Dan McTeague, said there a few factors he is seeing, "The market is pushing prices up. We're looking at something of a hiccup, a bit of a shortage, as a result of a refinery shutting down."

The wholesale price has already increased 4¢, which will start to show at the pumps.

"We are probably looking at a 5¢ to 7¢ per litre increase," McTeague said prices could increase anytime from now until the weekend. "If you're seeing gas at 98.9¢, take advantage of that because it's not going to last. Savings of 10¢ per litre, for most vehicles, could amount to a few dollars and that's money in your pocket instead of someone elses."

Last year, prices around the holiday season averaged around 94 - 95¢ per litre. Prices right now range from 98.9 - 105.9¢ per litre.

GasBuddy started up in Saskatchewan and now tracks gas prices for Canada, the United States and Australia.
