Chinook School Board Chairman Randy Beler

You can get a first look at Swift Current's new school tonight. The Chinook and Holy Trinity School Divisions will unveil the proposed design for Ecole Centennial School and All Saints Catholic School at an event at the Credit Union Iplex Auditorium tonight at 7:00pm.

Randy Beler, the Chairman of the Chinook School Board, said they're very excited to be at this milestone, “This is a major project and a major undertaking between the two divisions and to be able to present that to the public we're going right over the top”

Meanwhile, Holy Trinity's Director of Education Celeste Yorke, said they have had a great working relationship with their public school counterparts through this process, “We have our distinctive lists but at the same time we regocnize that we're all in the same community we all have the same goals. Which is to provide the best learning opprotunties for all of our kids. When each of us is strong and when both of us are strong together that means a really strong community.”

Yorke said it is the result of about two years of planning and consultation, “We talked to the teachers, we talked to the parents, we talked to the community at large and the architect spent a great deal of time putting together this information. I know at the last board meeting in meeting with the staff when they brought out their prelimiary designs, the stake holders said she listened it looks like we're going to have everything just about everything that we believe is important.”

Yorke adds their partnership with the Chinook School Division through this process has been excellent, a statement echoed by Beler, “Everybody thats been involved, the contact, the cooperation, the working together has just been excellent”

When talking about the agenda for tonights event Beler said it's a chance to hear about what the new joint-use school will look like, and ask any questions, “Brief introduction by myself and by the chair of the Holy Trinity board and then the meeting more or less will be handed over to the architects for most school divisions and they will go over the design parameters and they will also have story boards set up. At the end there will be time for questions and answers if anyone has some.”

The joint-use Pre-K to 8 school will be built as part of a proposed integrated facility near Cypress Regional Hospital, and is scheduled to open in 2014.
