The residents of Shaunavon and the surrounding communities have a new face in their health care system. Dr. Hong Tran has joined the Primary Health Care Medical Clinic at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre.

Dr. Tran from Chestermere, Alberta studied at the University of Calgary where he completed his pre-med education, and received a B.Sc in Biochemistry and his Biomedical Technology. He then went onto study at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia where he earned his Medical Degree.

He will join a team of Dr. P. Louwrens, Dr. O. Akpoigbe, Dr. I. Barretto, and alongside Nurse Practitioners Sherry Hornung and Chester McCuaig in the Shaunavon Primary Health Care Clinic.

“We had that vacant position for full-time physician, so he (Dr. Tran) is actually filling a permanent full-time position for our Shaunavon Primary Clinic,” said Betty Ann Bymoen, Manager of Primary Health Care in Shaunavon.

Dr. Tran is known for his outstanding talents in emergency room coverage, rural medicine, management of hospital in-patients, and long-term care.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Tran as a member of our medical team in Shaunavon. He is an excellent physician who is looking forward to providing medical service to residents of Shaunavon as a member of the primary care team,” Grant Browne, Medical Affairs Coordinator for Cypress Health said via a press release Tuesday.

Dr. Tran’s first day of practice was on August 17, 2016 in the Shaunavon Primary Health Care Clinic.
