Tree planting during a previous Go Green Friday

People in Swift Current are getting together to help "green" the community as a part of the 5th annual Go Green Friday.

It's organized by Stark & Marsh Chartered Accountants and over 70 of their staff will participate.

Darcy Congdon talks to Magic 97's Ryan Switzer"We certainly welcome all citizens of Swift Current," said Darcy Congdon from Stark & Marsh. "Merchants downtown I know it's difficult to get out and do some stuff, but I certainly encourage anybody to get out, clean in front of your shop and make the city look beautiful."

The staff and volunteers come together to plant trees, clean the creek bank, lay mulch and just tidy up around town.

"Working with friends of the parkway, the City of Swift Current and the Swift Current Creek Watershed Authority," Congdon said.

Some of the trees they have planted over the years have started to mature and serve as reminders of the work they've done.

"I see all those trees on the east end of town that we planted," Congdon added. "It's going kind of neat over the next twenty years as you see them grow and make the city look great as you drive in that corridor."

They are also partnering with SaskEnergy and the United Way on their Share the Warmth campaign collecting coats, jackets and sweaters at the market square throughout the day on Friday.

There will be a barbecue for the participants and the public at Market Square on Central and Chaplin. The cost is $3.00 with the proceeds supporting the United Way.

If you want to volunteer call 306-773-7285, and sign up for a morning or afternoon shift.
