Camping season might be a couple of months away, but reservations for some parks will be opening up tomorrow morning.

Folks can book in their summer plans at Grasslands National Park as of 8 a.m., but things will look a little different this year.

Parks Canada launched a new reservation service earlier this month with upgrades and updates.

The latest platform requires everyone to create a new account, even if they’ve had an account with Parks Canada before.  Due to launch days being busy and the sites dealing with an overflow of traffic, they recommend folks create those new accounts as soon as possible to get acquainted with how the site now works.

On a location's launch day:

  • The entire season will open for reservations for that location.
  • 30 minutes prior to reservations opening, anyone navigating the reservation website, as well as new users joining the website, will be directed to a waiting page.
  • At exactly 8 a.m. local time, anyone on that waiting page is randomly assigned a place in a queue (a virtual line-up).
  • The order is determined randomly and is not based on how long users have been on the website up to that point.
  • Users who arrive after 8 a.m. will be placed at the back of the queue.
  • When users reach their turn, they will be alerted via an on-screen message. At that point, they will have 30 minutes to proceed to the reservation website.
