The provincial government might not be pursuing a nuclear reactor right now, but the provincial Green Party would like them to go one step further.

The Greens are calling for legislation that would prohibit transportation and storage of nuclear reactor waste, and they would like to see a moratorium on all nuclear development in the province.

Party Leader Larissa Shasko says that includes the possibility of Saskatchewan becoming a site for a nuclear waste depository.  She says plans to continue with mining, exploration, research, and training are unacceptable.  Shasko would much rather see a focus on renewable energy and conservation.

As it stands right now, Saskatchewan is still open to the idea of becoming a potential site for a nuclear waste depository.
