One Swift Current resident is facing the heat after submitting a guilty plea in Swift Current provincial court on Wednesday.

31-year-old Joshua Neufeld pleaded guilty to a total of six charges, stemming back from a fire at Winks Convenience Store, Marty's Auto Detailing, and U-Haul trailer rentals back in November.

Neufeld was initially charged with Break and Enter contrary to Section 348(1) of the Criminal Code and Arson contrary to Section 434 of the Criminal Code.

Neufeld was sentenced to serve one year and 210 days behind bars.

The 31-year-old was remanded into custody on November 9, 2022, and will be given credit for time served.

He will have to provide a sample of his DNA to be stored in the DNA database and is prohibited from firearms for ten years.

Neufeld will also be required to pay restitution for damages causes.

Austin Hill, who is currently facing the same charges in relation to the fire, is scheduled to appear in Swift Current provincial court on March 1.
