Rhett Hamilton scored 5:26 into overtime to give the Melfort Mustangs a 4-3 road win over the Humboldt Broncos Wednesday night in game four of their SJHL semi-final series.

Owen Nelson, Cole Unger and Tristan Ziola also scored for the Mustangs, who have a 3-1 lead in the series and can advance to the Canterra Seeds Cup Final with a win at home on Saturday night. 

The Flin Flon Bombers advanced to the final with a sweep of the Battlefords North Stars earlier this week. 

Oilers beat Vegas without McDavid

Zach Hyman and Leon Draisaitl had a goal and an assist each as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Vegas Golden Knights 5-1, despite being without captain Connor McDavid, who is out day-to-day with an lower body injury.

Cody Ceci, Mattias Ekholm, and Dylan Holloway also scored as Edmonton reached 101 points on the season. The Golden Knights currently hold the last Western Conference wild card spot and are three games up on the St. Louis Blues with a game in hand and four games to play. The Blues beat the Blackhawks 5-2 in other NHL action on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Logan Cooley scored in overtime to give the Arizona Coyotes a 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Earlier in the day, reports surfaced that the NHL is working on two schedule drafts for the 2024-25 season depending on whether the Coyotes stay in Arizona or move to Salt Lake City. The Coyotes are hoping to win a land auction for a new arena in Phoenix.

Five Canadian teams are in action tonight with Toronto hosting New Jersey, Montreal visiting Long Island, Ottawa travelling to Tampa, Winnipeg visiting Dallas and Calgary travelling to LA.

Team Canada takes on Sweden in the quarterfinals of the Women's World Hockey Championship in Utica, New York this afternoon. Also, the United States faces Japan, Czechia takes on Germany and Finland battles Switzerland.

Raleigh's extra-inning homer helps Mariners avoid sweep by Jays

Cal Raleigh hit a two-run home run in the 10th inning on the first pitch he saw from Tim Mayza as the Seattle Mariners beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 Wednesday afternoon to avoid a three-game sweep.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered for the Jays, who start a three-game home series with the Colorado Rockies on Friday.
