The people of Saskatchewan can't seem to stop talking about the Harvest Eatery and Fresh Market in Shaunavon, and now they've made CBC Saskatchewan's Top Ten Burgers.

The live CBC poll started as a result of International Hamburger Day on May 28th, where residents of Saskatchewan were encouraged to vote for what restaurant they believe to have the best burger in the province, anywhere from fine dining to a small shop. The results were narrowed down to the top ten, and voting is underway with the Harvest Eatery currently sitting in fourth place among centres like Saskatoon and Regina.

Chef for the Harvest Eatery, Garrett Thienes, says the Harvest Burger chosen in the competition was one that's proven to be a popular choice at the restaurant.

"We have local ground beef which is supplied from our ranchers through Ranch House Meat Company in town. It's an eight ounce all beef burger. We treat the burger kind of like a steak, so we try not to mess with it too much,  with just a little bit of salt and pepper. We cook it old fashioned on the griddle, so you get to have all of those flavours stay and marinade within the meat," he explained. "We then put it on a toasted home-made brioche bun, so a nice dense home-made sesame burger bun. We use our Harvest Sauce, which is a secret and I can't tell you what's in that one, a little roasted garlic aioli, maple bacon, fresh butter lettuce, a slice of tomato, and a big jumbo pickle on top. We then finish it with a melted piece of aged white cheddar on top."

"It's not bad considering we're in a small town that we were able to be nominated over places like Ayden's in Saskatoon - I know they had some mentions, and they're one of the top ten restaurants in Canada this year according to enRoute Magazine," he added. "The fact that people enjoy it enough to stop for a couple of minutes in their busy day and give us a mention, or a vote, or just some love, it's awesome. It's really cool and I'm having a lot of fun with it."

Thienes says this has been a humbling experience, adding that no matter what happens in the contest, they're happy to be serving in the southwest.
