Four-year-old Henrix has a bit of a green thumb. With the help of his parents this year, he managed to grow an impressive garden.

“We started it in May,” Henrix shared about his garden. “Carrots, and potatoes, and raspberries.”

On top of all that produce, Henrix also helped mom and dad grow tomatoes, lots of tomatoes.

“They’re yummy to eat,” Henrix declared. “We grew 19 (plants.)”

All of those plants meant the Parsons had a lot of tomatoes on their hands. And Henrix had an idea this past weekend.

“We could get some more Terry Fox money!”

With the idea in hand, Mom helped Henrix pack a box of tomatoes, they headed to the main street in Elrose. For $0.25 you were able to purchase one of Henrix’s home-grown tomatoes.

“We had lots leftover, and I asked what are we going to with them. Henrix had the idea to sell them,” Mom Ashley Parson shared over the phone. “It’s his first-year fundraising for Terry Fox, he had been busy pledging, and he said ‘we could make money for Terry Fox.’”

Henrix has his table set up at about 11 am on Main Street, and thanks to some word of mouth, they managed to sell out.

“We had some people come just for the tomatoes. Others, we were right next to the grocery store and pharmacy, they would see our stand and they would come on over.”

Henrix also managed to sell a few more tomatoes than he was able to have on display. Later this week Mom and him have to make a few deliveries.

Now it appears Henrix has been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug.

“We had so much fun. He keeps asking now when we’re going sell more stuff,” Ashley laughs.

In the end, Henrix managed to raise $238 from selling his tomatoes. Both Ashley and Henrix were thankful for the support.

“Thanks to everyone that came out and donated. It was a great day.”
