Cypress Health Region 1

A disruption of service at the Herbert and District Integrated Health Facility.

There will be no emergency outpatient services or acute admissions from 5pm on Thursday, June 20th to 10pm on Saturday, June 22nd.

The Cypress Health Region blames the disruption on physician unavailability.

"Our physicians in the region sometimes have provincial responsibilities that they've taken on," said Cypress Health Region Director of Rural Health Trent Regier. "Dr. Kasset belongs to the Saskatchewan Medical Association and I believe that he is away attending to business involving that organization."

There is normally only one doctor in Herbert.

Interview with Trent Regier"Dr. Kasset is a sole practitioner in Herbert," Regier said. "When he takes vacation or has to be away he finds locum coverages. Unfortunately there was no locum physician available."

Regier noted Dr. Kasset did find coverage for his inpatients, but wasn't able to for E.R. or outpatients.

The nearest emergency department is at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current.

If you have a medical emergency you can call 911 for immediate assistance, while for non-urgent medical concerns you can call HealthLine at 811.

The health region is directing any questions or concerns to Health Services Manager Rowland Schmidt at 306-784-2466.
