Motorists travelling on Highway 4 near Cadillac can expect a road closure and detour in place for the foreseeable future.

Late last week a portion of the road was consumed due to major flooding in southwestern Saskatchewan and due to the conditions persisting, the Ministry of Highways is in wait mode.

"Crews are still assessing damage, which includes planning and design by our engineers followed by construction," an email from the Ministry of Highways said.

The section of road that's been turned into a crater is about one kilometre south of Cadillac.

A weather system is expected to hit the area in the next few days that could potentially bring snow with it and hamper the rehab process down.

"Crews will be having to move heavier wet snow which is a slower process that may take more time/passes," the Ministry of Highways said.

There is no timeline for the road to be reconstructed at the moment.
