Construction began this week on a well traveled road within the city.

Communications Consultant with the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, Sonja Orban says the work on Highway 1 should be completed by October.

"Basically work is taking place in the westbound lanes of highway one starting at the eastern part of the city to about one kilometer east of the junction of Highway 32. So essentially this work will cut right through Swift Current," Orban said.

He adds that during the fifteen kilometer repaving project, crews will keep one lane open to ensure a continuous flow of traffic however drivers should expect delays and allow for extra time.

Additionally, Orban says there are a couple of smaller projects which will also be taking place.

"There is some small projects happening in the area on Highway 32 and Highway 63. These are two hand-patching projects that are occurring. They are really small and they should have minimal impact on driver's," he said.

Drivers are reminded to slow down to 60 km/h when in construction zones.
