The cancellations of athletic events and leagues as a response to COVID-19 continued with a couple big one Thursday afternoon and evening.

The CHL (WHL/OHL/QMJHL) halted operations this afternoon until further notice, though they remain only paused.

Meanwhile, a big one affecting a pile of teams in southwest Saskatchewan came just before 7 p.m.

Hockey Canada released a statement not just postponing, but cancelling all sanctioned events - including national championships - until further notice, starting Friday.

Sask Hockey Association followed suit with a statement regarding Hockey Canada's decision.

As of March 13, SHA says that all Provincial Playoffs, Sask First Tournaments, and Minor Hockey League playoff games "must seize for the remainder of the season."

In a related matter, that spells the cancellation of a pair of Redhead Equipment Local Sports Live broadcasts planned for March 13 and 14 as well.

With Senior Hockey League play falling under the umbrella of SHA and Hockey Canada's events, that means the cancellation of the remainder of the Whitemud Hockey League and Sask Valley Hockey League Finals.
