Boris Kofman broke a scoreless tie with a power play goal in third period as the Humboldt Broncos blanked the Weyburn Redwings 3-0 to win game seven of their first-round SJHL playoff series on Tuesday at Elgar Petersen Arena.

Spencer Bell also scored on the power play in the third and Maddox Amaral added an empty-netter. Benjamin Motew made 30 saves for the shutout as the Broncos advanced to the semi-final to face the Melfort Mustangs.

The other league semi-final has the Flin Flon Bombers facing the Battlefords North Stars in a rematch of last season's Canterra Seeds Cup final.

Suzuki scores twice as Habs beat Panthers

Captain Nick Suzuki scored two goals to help the Montreal Canadiens to a 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday at the Bell Centre. Cole Caufield, Jake Evans and Joel Armia also scored for the Habs while Sam Montembault made 37 saves.

In other NHL action, Jonathan Marchessault had a goal and two assists as Vegas beat Vancouver 6-3, Alex Killorn scored twice in Anaheim's 5-3 win over Calgary, and Vinni Lettieri scored the winner in the third period of Minnesota's 3-2 win over Ottawa.

Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs visit the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Edmonton Oilers head to Dallas and the Canucks travel to Arizona.

Schneider's clutch homer lifts Jays over Astros

Davis Schneider hit a two-run home run with two out in the top of the ninth to lift the Toronto Blue Jays to a 2-1 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night as the Jays avenged Monday's 10-0 loss where Ronel Blanco threw the first no-hitter of the season.

Gushue gets two more wins at World Men's

Brad Gushue and Team Canada are now 6-1 at the World Men’s Curling Championship after an 8-2 win over the US on Tuesday afternoon and a 7-4 victory over the Netherlands overnight in Switzerland. 

Canada faces South Korea in their next game later this morning.
