Swift Current residents will want to keep an eye out as construction begins tomorrow on First Avenue Northwest and Cheadle Street West.

Manager of Infrastructure and Operations for the City of Swift Current, Mitch Minken, expects this work to only take a few weeks, depending on the weather.

"If we're getting some rain, that's probably going to delay things a bit," allowed Minken. "But the plan is to have the traffic restrictions in place for two weeks."

The intersection will be receiving an upgrade to the traffic lights later this year. This work is in preparation for those lights.

"Monday we're going to have some lane restrictions going on to allow crews to come in and remove the concrete sidewalks," said Minken. "To begin the work of drilling the piles for the new traffic structures over the next week or two."

This project is going to run up a cost of $250,000 and is within the City's budget.

Drivers will want to use caution, pay attention to any signage posting leading into the intersection, and keep an eye out for workers.
