The New Jersey Devils announced today they have signed Broncos forward Josh Filmon to a three-year, entry-level contract. The Devils drafted Filmon 166th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. He will report to the AHL’s Utica Comets on an Amateur Tryout.

Filmon, from Winnipeg, Man., wrapped up his third season with the Broncos by once again taking a massive step forward in his offensive production. Picking up a goal and an assist in the Broncos final game of the season, Filmon secured sole possession of the Broncos scoring lead this season with 75 points (47-28-75) in 64 games.

After scoring twice in 17 games during the shortened 2020-21 season, Filmon blew up for 45 points (23-22-45) in 2021-22. He was invited to the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and also represented Team Canada at the World Under-18 Hockey Challenge in Germany, recording one assist in three games.

Filmon wasted no time in 2022-23, scoring his 23rd goal of the season in just his 28th game on December 31 against the Medicine Hat Tigers. That included the overtime winner.

Filmon recorded the WHL’s first six-goal game since Tyler Ennis in February of 2009 when he found the back of the net six times in the Broncos 8-4 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on December 16. He ended the season by scoring 14 goals over the team’s final 15 games.

Drafted 67th overall by the Broncos in the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft, Filmon finished his third season with the Broncos with 122 career points (72-50-122) in 148 career games. Only four players from the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft have scored more goals than Filmon, and all of them have played more games.

Filmon is the third member of the 2022-23 Broncos to sign an NHL contract joining Owen Pickering (Pittsburgh, July 16, 2022) and Gage Alexander (Anaheim, December 30, 2022).
