Cypress Health Region officials are set to receive keys to 'The Meadows' long term care facility Friday in a space that was bare just 19 months ago in Swift Current.

"It has come together in a hurry," says Lyle Quintin, Board Chair for the Cypress Health Region. "It's a new style of care. We're moving away from the institutional-like care and moving towards home-like care."

"We felt 'The Meadows' name best reflected that new care and the tranquility of 'The Meadows' best reflected that care," commented Quintin, who voted along with the Cypress Health Board to approve the name at their April 13th meeting.

'Swift Current' is absent from the name of the new facility as it isn't only exclusive to Swift Current but the entire region.

If beds aren't available for residents in their local areas, they will have the option of coming to Swift Current until arrangements closer to home can be made.

Move in schedules have been organized over three days, beginning June 5th with 60 residents from the Palliser Pioneers Lodge.

Ten more will move from the Swift Current and Palliser Care Centres combined as well.

Remaining residents from the Swift Current Care Centre will move in August 7th, and a final move date on September 18th for members of the Prairie Pioneer Lodge.

Training for staff has already begun within the facility.
