Creative engines were revving over the weekend for the return of Scouts Canada’s Kub Kar and Scout Truck Rally.

Located in the Swift Current Mall, the event provides Scouts, Cubs, and Beaver members to display and race their homemade vehicles.

Committee Chairperson and Scout Leader, Bobbi Dawn Legere, said the amount of work required for the cars and trucks varies depending on age.

“The Beaver Buggies are easiest and for the youngest of the group, they mostly just decorate their Buggie and put on some tires and away they go,” she elaborated. “As they get a little bit older and they go into Cubs, they start to make the Kub Kars, which is just a block of wood and then we sand them up, paint them, and put the tires on. They can do as little or as much work as they want to. It's done completely by the kids, so it all depends on how ambitious they are.

“The Scout Trucks are a little bit more involved in that you get a bunch of pieces of wood, and they have to cut out more than just one block.”

Professional Upholstery and Carpet Cleaning works with the kids to cut the needed pieces for the vehicles.

Legere added that the turnout from children and spectators made for a phenomenal event.

“We have 30 kids total, and I think about 24 or 25 came out for it,” she stated. “There were a lot of people, like parents and aunts and uncles and sisters and brothers, there was just a lot of support. It was pretty amazing, the turnout was excellent, and we just had a lot of fun.”
