An agreement on Labour Mobility at last week's Council of the Federation is being applauded by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

The announcement appears to follow the model in the BC-Alberta Trade, Investment, and Labour Mobility Agreement.  The agreement lists 23 pages of occupations where certification rules need to be harmonized.

The Vice President of Saskatchewan and Agri-Business, Marilyn Braun-Pollon, says the agreement will eliminate additional certification examinations or residency requirements for skilled workers who are looking to relocate throughout the country.

The provinces and territories expect to amend the internal trade agreement by January 1, 2009, and work toward labour mobility by April 1, 2009.
