Something that we learned in 2009 that may have come as a surprise:

CN Tower reaches 555.35 metres in height, becoming the world's tallest free-standing structure; the giant communications mast cost $44 million, uses 145,000 tonnes of concrete and steel.

 

1981

Dolly Parton performs "9 To 5" on the Oscar awards, which were postponed 24 hours following the shooting of President Ronald Reagan. Sissy Spacek wins the Best Actress award for portraying Loretta Lynn in "Coal Miner's Daughter"

 

1982

Canada's first fibre optics cable manufacturing plant opens in Saskatoon.

 

2005

Terri Schiavo died at a hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla., 13 days after her feeding tube was removed in a right-to-die dispute that engulfed the courts, Congress and the White House. An autopsy eventually reveals that Terri had suffered extensive brain damage.

Christopher Walken –67- He has appeared in more than 100 movies and television shows, including Annie Hall, The Deer Hunter, Sleepy Hollow, Brainstorm, The Dead Zone, A View to a Kill, At Close Range, King of New York, Batman Returns, True Romance, Catch Me If You Can, Wayne's World 2, Pulp Fiction, Envy, Wedding Crashers, Click and Hairspray as well as music videos by recording artists such as Madonna, Journey and Fatboy Slim.
