The Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires comeback in the Queen City fell just short tonight.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the second period to the Regina Pat Canadians, the Legionnaires were able to claw their way back but wound up falling 3-2 in overtime.

Saskatoon’s Eric Hoiness put Swift Current on the board late in the second period with a lone assist going to Rowan Martin-Bryk.

Legionnaires captain Matt Ripplinger tied the game up with only 42 seconds remaining in overtime with the goalie pulled.

That set the scene for the second-leading scorer in the league, Ben Riche to score the overtime winner for Regina.

Goaltender Liam Ernst made 25 saves in the loss.

Swift Current picked up a point in the loss and moves 13-14-3 on the season, four points clear of the Estevan Bears for the final playoff spot.

The Legionnaires will now turn their attention to the Notre Dame Hounds Sunday afternoon at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.
