Kade Stringer scored the lone goal in the shootout to lift the Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires to a 3-2 win over the Regina Pat Canadians Tuesday night at Innovationplex to move two points ahead of the Pat-C's for first place in the SMAAAHL standings.

Connor Rieger and Steven Steranka traded goals in the first period, and Parker Rondeau and Casey Brown continued the back-and-forth with goals in the second. After a scoreless third period, 3-on-3 overtime and first three rounds of the shootout, Stringer scored to put the Legionnaires ahead before Berney Weston stopped Ellis Mieyette to seal the victory.

Kayd Ruedig and Jackson Fox added assists for the Legionnaires and Weston made 37 saves in regulation and overtime as Regina outshot Swift Current 39-27.

The Legionnaires (18-5-3) will now head to Calgary for the prestigious Circle K Classic U18 AAA invitational tournament. Their opening game of the round robin will be against the Yale Lions on December 27 at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex, and then they'll face the Calgary Buffaloes at Max Bell Arena on December 28 before taking on Detroit Victory Honda at Seven Chiefs on December 29.

Swift Current will resume league play on January 13 when they host Tisdale.
