After four meetings spread over three months in the Sask Midget AAA Hockey League's regular-season schedule, the Home Hardware Legionnaires and Regina Pat Canadians open a best-of-five league quarter-final playoff series tonight.

Several different scripts have played out between these two teams in the regular-season series - whether it be a wild shootout win for Swift Current at the iPlex, an oh-so-close overtime loss to the Pat Canadians in the provincial capital, or a pair of tough one-sided losses to Regina.

Dec 8: 7-3 loss at the iPlex
Dec 17: 3-2 shootout win at the iPlex
Jan 18: 4-3 overtime loss at the Cooperators Centre
Feb 12: 7-2 loss at the Cooperators Centre

All in all, the Legionnaires have claimed three out of a possible eight points, as we dive into the numbers over those four games.

The Pat Canadians have scored an average of five goals-per-game, while the Legionnaires - counting the shootout winner - have recorded a mark of 2.75 per-game.

Swift's Current's 11 goals in the season series were spread out fairly evenly. Four came in both the first and third periods, two were recorded in the second, with of course one coming as a shootout winner.

Regina meanwhile has either gotten off to a hot start, finished strong, or both. They posted seven of their 20 goals in the first frame, eight in the third, four in the second, and one in overtime.

Regina has averaged an even 34 shots over the four contests, more than doubling that of the Legionnaires' 15.75.

Lastly, the usually prolific penalty-kill of the Legionnaires has had troubling times against the Pat Canadians. Though with some clutch kills from Swift Current still mixed in, the Pat Canadians were 7-for-21 on the powerplay in four games - a 33.3 percent rate that triples that of the Legionnaires' 11.1 percent (2-for-18).

The two teams open the series tonight in the provincial capital. The top-seeded Pat Canadians host the eighth-seeded Legionnaires at 7:15 p.m. from the Cooperators Centre.
