The Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires will start their last week of action before the Christmas break when they visit the Notre Dame Hounds tonight in Wilcox. 

The Legionnaires are coming off a split of the Saskatoon Contacts and have won one of two meetings with the Hounds so far this season. 

Swift Current will host Tisdale for a pair of games this weekend before heading to Calgary for the Circle K Classic at the end of the month.

Habs edge Flames in the shootout

Josh Anderson scored the tying goal late in regulation and Kirby Dach scored the shootout winner as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Calgary Flames 2-1 in NHL action on Monday night. 

Elsewhere, Alex DeBrincat scored twice and Cam Talbot made 32 saves as Ottawa blanked Anaheim 3-0 and Frederick Gaudreau scored the winning goal midway through the second as Minnesota beat Edmonton 2-1.

Three Canadian NHL teams are in action tonight with Toronto hosting Anaheim, Edmonton visiting Nashville and Winnipeg hosting Vegas.

Three games in the WHL tonight have Moose Jaw hosting Spokane, Saskatoon entertaining Medicine Hat and Seattle welcoming Prince George. The Swift Current Broncos host the Kelowna Rockets tomorrow night.

Riders name new OC, mourn passing of John Gregory

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have named running backs coach Kelley Jeffrey their new offensive coordinator. 

Jeffrey joined the team last season after working with the Edmonton Elks in 2020 and was also special teams coordinator for the Toronto Argonauts in 2016.  

Meanwhile, former Roughriders head coach John Gregory passed away Monday at the age of 84. He coached the Green and White from 1987 to 1991, helping them to snap an 11-year playoff drought in 1988 and a Grey Cup victory in 1989, in a game that many fans still consider to be one of the best CFL championship games ever played.

Murray carted off as Cardinals lose Monday nighter

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was carted off the field early in Arizona’s 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots last night. 

Murray suffered a non-contact knee injury on his first offensive series of the game and initial reports indicate that he has torn his ACL. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI today.

Argentina battles Croatia in first World Cup semi

Argentina and Croatia battle in the first semi-final of the FIFA World Cup today in Qatar. 

Lionel Messi and Argentina rebounded from a shock 2-1 loss in their opening match to Saudi Arabia with four straight wins and are a victory away from appearing in the country’s sixth World Cup final and first since 2014. 

Croatia were the runners-up to France in the last World Cup in 2018 and beat Argentina 3-0 in the group stage that year. 

France takes on upstart Morocco in tomorrow’s semi-final, and the final will be on Sunday morning.
