You can learn more about how to prevent, recognize and react to child sexual abuse in Swift Current over the next few months.

The Little Warriors, a national charitable organization that educates adults in Canada on preventing child sexual abuse, is offering their Stewards of Children workshops in our city.

Lacey Untereiner Interview"It talks about the prevalence of child sexual abuse in our society," said Regional Program Coordinator Lacey Untereiner. "Who the offenders are, what to look for... we also talk about how to talk to our kids, what we can do to prevent child sexual abuse."

It's a workshop the Little Warriors encourage any adults to take.

"This training is excellent for all adults who are committed to protecting children from sexual abuse," Untereiner said. "It's good for parents, grandparents... anyone in the community that interacts with children."

There are several lessons to learn from the three hour session.

"Teach adults how to watch for the signs and symptoms," she added. "Also more importantly how to respond responsibly to child sexual abuse. We talk about reporting procedures and how to prevent (it)."

1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthday and 95% of them know their perpetrator. A recent study funded by Little Warriors reporter that 95% of cases go unreported.

Individuals and groups can register to participate for sessions on September 12th or 28th, October 24th and November 14th.
