Coming up soon, Swift Current residents will have the opportunity to acknowledge Earth Day and support the environment with the City's Clean Up - Green Up Campaign.

The campaign consists of two activities, the Clean Up - Green Up on Earth Day, April 22, and Garbage Groupies, which will run until the end of June.

Brad Woods, partnerships and events coordinator with the City of Swift Current is eager to see the community come together to keep our public areas clean and healthy.

"The Clean Up - Green Up Campaign is done in conjunction with Earth Day, which is an international movement to keep our environment clean and spread awareness about the environment and things we can do to make our world a better place," said Woods.

On Earth Day, community members are encouraged to help clean up the environment and public spaces around the City as part of the campaign.

"Residents can go into their community areas, parks, playgrounds, along the walking paths, anywhere like that and just commit to picking up some garbage and putting it in the trash receptacles," Woods said.

Anyone picking up trash and supporting the Clean Up - Green Up on Earth Day, can scan a QR code on the public trash bins to be entered to win some great prizes.

Garbage Groupies will consist of a business, organization, family, or group of friends committing to taking care of a chosen area from April 22 - June 30.

The City of Swift Current is providing gloves, garbage bags, or any necessary items for Garbage Groupies.

"This is the third year running so we'll probably see some of the same people and would love to see a bunch of new people get involved," added Woods.
