The Sputtergotch Toy Company is known for providing kids of all ages with toys, games, puzzles, and crafts, but they are not the only one being given those items for their enjoyment.

Late last spring, Sputtergotch started raising money so they could purchase recreational items for the seniors at The Meadows.

Gary Koebel, the owner of the Sputtergotch Toy Company, said that the fundraiser raised close to $1,700.

"One area we felt didn't get an awful lot of attention is areas to help improve the lives of our seniors," he said. "We approached the Auxiliary at The Meadows to see if they would be interested in a campaign both to raise awareness of the financial need to provide seniors with recreational items to keep their minds busy and active and also to see if we can do some fundraising for them."

Koebel said to be able to help out seniors the way they did means a lot.

"Regardless of your age, having fun, keeping your mind busy, or social interaction is important to whether you are three or a 103. We were really excited with the results, and we were able to bring a pile of different things that they can do from puzzles and crafts to games. A whole variety of things that we hope will put some smiles on some of the senior residents' faces."

The title of the fundraiser was 'Young at Heart,' which Koebel perfectly summed up what they were trying to bring awareness to.

"That really brought home the message that we were trying to convey to the general public is regardless of age, having enjoyment and that time is important no matter what your age is," Koebel said. "It truly is what we were hoping to accomplish here. Is to create the awareness that seniors are young at heart. They need some fulfillment as well to and we hoped we accomplished that through this campaign."

He added that he hopes this fundraiser isn't the end as there is a constant need for seniors in a place like The Meadows to have recreational resources.
