Our region continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in Canada.
According to the March report from Stats Canada, the unemployment rate for Swift Current/Moose Jaw was 2%, down from 4.7% a year ago.
The number of unemployed people in our region dropped from 2300 in March 2012 to 1100 last month.
There are 6500 more people working here than there were a year ago and the labour force is up from 49,100 to 54,400 people.
The provincial unemployment rate dropped from 5.2% to 4% year over year.
Meanwhile, Stats Canada noted Canada as a whole lost 54,000 jobs in March.
The drop is the biggest in four years.
