A Swift Current resident is hoping to top the charts with his new single.

Jessie Genns has been performing ever since his high school days, on and off. But this newest single is his biggest attempt yet to capture the ears of everyone willing to listen.

Genns' newest single is titled "Going Home", and is the rocket fuel in his newest album that he hopes will take him to stardom.

"I wrote the song a couple of years back," said Genns. "I was going through a bit of a trying time in my life and was making some pretty God awful decisions and the song just kind of talks about finding your way back to the person that you want to be."

Genns was able to sign with a managing firm recently, Black Mountain Music and Media. They've been helping handle the business side of Genns touring and performing, lining up shows and helping him find a recording studio to work on his album and record the single in.

"Pinky, my manager, books me gigs and kind of deals with the business side of the music industry," confirmed Genns. "Which allows me to focus more on writing and playing and singing and that sort of thing."

Genns will be performing his newest single in its debut showing right here in Swift Current, at the Railway North Social House. The show will be beginning at 7 p.m. tonight.

"A lovely girl from Herbert, Saskatchewan, Cheyenne Funk will be opening up for me," said Genns.

Genns himself has been living and working in Swift Current since 2013. He is employed as a journeyman carpenter and superintendent for Silverline Construction. This recent foray back into music is his biggest push to date and has been an experience unlike any of his others, having partnered with a label.

"It's been a big learning curve for sure," said Genns. "Just trying to navigate and figure out kind of what I need to get going here. It's been good. Pinky has been a huge help."
