With New Year's Day just around the corner the countdown is on for the biggest parade across the globe.

Swift Current's very own Poppy Parsons is now a staple member of the many volunteer florists that made the Rose Parade a success.

The Smart Flowers owner heads down to Pasadena on Boxing Day and dives right in to decorating a giant float entirely with floral materials.

"It's really four days; we have to be done by the 30th for judging on New Year's Eve in the morning," she said. "So sometimes that final night is quite busy, because then the float has to travel down to the parade route on the 31st for the parade starting on the 1st in the morning."

Parsons will be on the Explore Louisiana float this time around--a bit of a shift from what she's been assigned to for the past couple of years.

With the theme Celebrating a World of Music: The Universal Language, this float promises a feast for the senses, combining live musical performances with the vibrant hues of traditional Mardi Gras colors.

"You won't miss it," assured Parsons. "It's purple and green and very celebratory with fleur-de-lis and a court jester. That's the one to watch for."
