Labour Day weekend is upon us, but a look at the forecast might be a good idea before hitting the beach.

Some unfortunate weather, such as a chance of rain, overcast, and a chance of thunderstorms may be putting a damper on plans.

Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said that the reason for the less than ideal conditions was due to a southern system which may not affect you as much as expected.

"Over the next few days, there's a little system skirting south of the U.S. border, you may get some cloud, and maybe a shower, but nothing widespread or anything like that. It's actually looking fairly decent."

On holiday Monday, another weather system may move in and create a similar scenario.

Temperatures are set to continue to level out around the seasonal mark for the next few days.

Clouds look like they clear up on Wednesday before glooming up the skies once more. Lang said that a northwesterly flow was causing those to form.

On the longer-range front, she said that Swift Current would be closing in on the 0 C mark as fall got closer.

"It looks like perhaps next weekend there's a possibility [of frost]. It looks like perhaps Saturday morning, but that's a long ways off again, so we'll just have to keep an eye on it and see which way the weather systems track," she said.

Cloud cover, and a lack of winds are contributing factors to near-freezing temperatures this time of year.
