A return to where it all started was the case for former Swift Current Bronco Cody Eakin over the weekend.

Eakin started his major junior career with the Swift Current Broncos, playing three-and-a-half seasons with the club from 2007-2011 before a trade to the Kootenay Ice brought him a WHL Championship.

The former Broncos captain was in town for the MNP Bronco Alumni Golf Classic - an event that brought with it a trip down memory lane.

"It's crazy - I brought my fiance for the first time, she's been hounding me to get out here," said Eakin. "I gave her the quick tour - took her by the rink, took her by the high school, took her by my billet's house. It only lasted about seven minutes the whole drive. But, lots of good memories, and driving by people's houses that I remember when I played."

The forward also took time out of his most-memorable NHL season to-date to track the Broncos 2017-18 season.

"Yeah I did. As the season progressed, I was keeping tabs - obviously following through the playoff run," Eakin shared. "It's exciting to see, obviously as an alumni you wish the best and the most success for the team. It was really nice to see Swift Current get that title they've been chasing for a while."

Eakin racked up 195 points (100 G, 95 A) in 212 regular-season games, as well as 12 points (7 G, 5 A) in 23 post-season contests with the Broncos, and was drafted in the third round (85th overall) by the Washington Capitals in the 2009 NHL Draft.

It was also the team that drafted Eakin that upended his chances at a Hollywood ending this past season with the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Capitals hoisted the Stanley Cup this past spring, defeating Eakin's Golden Knights.

Still, Vegas' whirlwind 2017-18 campaign was the most-successful expansion season in NHL history.

"It's hard to sum up in words," said Eakin, who was drafted seventh-overall in the expansion draft. "It was emotional season from start to finish, just so exciting and so proud to be a part of it."

Eakin finished the season with 27 regular-season points (11 G, 16 A) and four playoff points (3 G, 1 A) in the Golden Knights' inaugural season.

Heading into 2018-19, the 27-year-old says he wants to continue growing the team's relationship with what he feels is a very passionate city and fan base.

"I think it's everything you think it would be," noted Eakin. "The city is just a fantastic city - completely embraced us, wrapped their arms around us. In turn, we gave them some real exciting hockey and just had a special bond."
