Lowry in last years Super Series

Two Broncos cracked the roster for this year's Subway Super Series.

Forwards Adam Lowry and Graham Black will both suit up for Team WHL when they take on the Russians in Vancouver on November 14th and Victoria the following night.

Black will be on the squad for the game in Victoria.

Full Interview with Graham Black"It's a complete surprise," said Black. "I came to the rink (Thursday) morning and I had no idea what was going on. I just got called into the office and they told me, just a wonderful way to start the day... It's unbelievable. I can't wait to lace up the skates and see what I can do against all the great talent that will be there... I think those guys are incredible. All the guys in the team are just amazing players. I just hope I can keep up."

Lowry will be in the line-up for both games of the series. Heappeared in the Super Series game in Moose Jaw last season.

Full Interview with Adam Lowry"I'm pretty excited, it was something I was looking forward to," said Lowry. "Obviously excited I get to play in both games. It's a good opportunity for me. Last year it was kind of fun, it was neat playing against those guys. It was one of my first opportunities to play in one of those games (so) I was a little nervous. Coming into it this year I should be a little more comfortable. Hopefully I'll play a little bit more this year (and) leave a good impression."

Swift Current's Captain is glad to see Black will be coming to the Super Series with him.

"It's awesome for him," Lowry said. "He's had a tremendous year so far. He's had to battle some pretty tough things throughout his career. For him to be recognized for the way he's playing right now is awesome for him and I'm very excited to play in one of the games with him."

Black has had to live with the effects of Graves' disease throughout his teen years and has been dealing with a flare up in the first couple of months of the season.

"I was really sick about a month ago," Black said. "It kind of came back and I'm getting over it now. We're taking out my thyroid pretty quick so hopefully everything is back to normal right away... I feel better every day. Some days are worse than others and some nights I can't sleep because of it. Every day is getting a lot better and I just can't wait to be 100% recovered."

Black, a draft pick of the New Jersey Devils, has 12 points through 14 games this season. Lowry was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets and has 15 points over 15 games played. Now they have to turn their attention to getting out of a slump the whole team has been battling through. The Broncos have only scored 5 goals in their last 5 games.

"We just need to play our game," Black said. "We just need to bear down, get the puck of our own end and goals will come when they come. We justt need to play our game and not grip our sticks too hard."

Lowry isn't that concerned because he feels they've still been generating chances.

"I think some of it is puck luck," Lowry added. "We've had quite a few chances in that last few games where earlier on they were going in and now the goalie is kind of getting across, or we're missing the net, or we're not quite connecting with those passes. I think we can't press too hard. Sometimes less is more. If you look at things you try to make too many plays you kind of handcuff yourself. We just need to focus on playing good solid defence and our chances will come."

Swift Current starts a two game trip in Cranbrook against the Kootenay Ice on Friday night. They're in Lethbridge on Saturday. You can hear both games on The Eagle 94.1 FM with The New Pioneer Co-op Home Centre Broncos Hockey at 6:30pm.
