In addition to urgent renovations, the Lyric Theatre is also undergoing changes in its leadership.

Gordon McCall, the executive director, will no longer be part of the team upon reopening, as he has chosen to spend much-needed time with family.

Georgia Graham, President of the board for The Lyric Theatre, explained that the board is contemplating splitting the position into two positions; A general manager and an artistic director to maintain the diverse range of events and performances offered by the theatre.

“It’s a large job to manage the whole theatre and we would like to continue not only offering the music side and the book side - because we have our events such as our Open Stage, our Youth Talent Night, and Write Out Loud, that are our standing events - but we'd also like to keep the theatre as well,” she elaborated.

Job descriptions for the new positions are being developed, and the board plans to release postings closer to the reopening date.

Graham acknowledged that the absence of McCall will bring about a significant change. However, she emphasized the board's commitment to adapt and ensure the theatre’s continued presence as a staple in the community.

“It'll be a big change,” she stated. “It'll definitely be some new faces, probably different ventures, a new director will bring a different light to the type of artistry that comes out and the type of theatre. It’s hard to tell what it will look like, but it will definitely be a change.”

For those interested in staying updated or contributing to the Lyric Theatre, information and updates will be posted on their Facebook page once the campaigns are underway.
