It’s likely the animal developed the disease in it's first year of life.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says, the Manitoba cow confirmed as Canada’s latest case of BSE, likely developed the disease in it's first year of life.

Spokesman, George Luterbach, says they are trying to track down the animal’s birth farm.

Luterbach also says its unlikely that the cow, believed to have been more than 15-years-old when it was put down, ever passed the disease on to its calves.

The Interlake farmer’s herd is under quarantine.
