It was another historic night for southwestern Saskatchewan product Patrick Marleau as he officially took sole possession of the NHL's regular-season games played record.

The Aneroid native played in his 1,768th regular-season contest tonight passing Mr. Hockey (Gordie Howe).

"I just love it, there's nothing else like it," he said following the game regarding what keeps him coming to the rink daily.

The 41-year-old's San Jose Sharks dropped the game 3-2 in overtime to the Vegas Golden Knights and kept Marleau off the scoresheet, although he did log 17:21 in ice-time and recorded a shot on net.

Following the game, he shook the hand of every Golden Knight before being given a stand ovation by the roughly 3,900 fans at T-Moblie Arena.
