The provincial government reported the number of new cases of COVID-19 exceeded those of recoveries for the second time this weekend.

Sunday afternoon, it was reported there were 167 new cases across Saskatchewan, and 156 recoveries. Nearly half of the new cases were located in Saskatoon and Regina.

There were 54 new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatoon, and 29 in Regina. Another 20 new cases were reported in the North West zone, 16 in the North Central zone, 14 in the South East, 11 in South Central, six in the Far North West, six in the Central East, three in the South West and one new case in the Far North East and Central West zones.

One new death due to COVID-19 was also reported. The patient was in the 80+ age group and was in the Saskatoon zone.

Across the province, there are now 2,082 active cases of COVID-19. There are also 137 people in hospital receiving treatment for COVID-19, with 24 of those in intensive care. The seven-day average of new cases is 191.

Testing was slightly lower compared to previous days, with 2,827 tests processed in the province. There were no new lineage results of COVID-19 variants of concern. SO far, there have been 4,443 variants of concern identified by genome sequencing. The overwhelming majority of them are of the UK variant. Also detected in Saskatchewan are the Brazilian variant, the South African variant and the Indian variant.

The public health guidelines for Regina will also be updated effective Monday. All restaurants in Regina will be able to resume in-person dining, with a limit of four people at a table. The guidelines are the same as those in effect in the rest of the province.
