Shaunavon Town Council has requested a meeting with Health Authority representatives to discuss ways to prevent Disruptions of Service at the Shaunavon Hospital because of staffing issues.

The Shaunavon Hospital and Care Center experienced a Temporary Disruption of Services last week between the overnight  hours of eleven p.m. Monday December 11th and seven a.m. Tuesday December 12th. There was no emergency services or outpatient admissions available during that time, and residents of the area were asked to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Health Region officials say the Disruption of Services was due to registered nursing unavailability.

Tara Fritz is the Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Shaunavon. She says, "So, the municipal leaders of the Town of Shaunavon and the surrounding towns, villages, and RM's are truly concerned about the potential impact of these disruptions to the citizens of our communities. So, the Town of Shaunavon has invited the surrounding municipalities to attend this meeting as well."

The Town is looking to meet in order to discuss the issues regarding nurses and EMS staffing at the local facility.

Fritz says no date  has been decided upon yet for the meeting.
